PROPOSAL for HERMÈS

My proposal is based on the two edges of a pyramid. If I had to add a title for both designs combined, it would be “tradere”.

Tradere means to hand over, to surrender and it is the only way I see any honest relationship as well as the foundations that mark the quality of the construction.

The first design is a visit to a museum. It speaks about the distance we have when we see old things and we learn their stories. Our eyes may observe but the distance is certain. They're thousands of objects we witness their beauty and their confessions, but at the end, there is a lot of empty space between us and them. Our unconscious minds store these images and may bring them back to us through dreams or even daydreams. The - desperate effort - to make us have an open dialogue with the wholeness and the world around us. Every vessel carries a different story. Sometimes clear enough for us to understand and other times something uncertain and even confusing.

John Berger, back in the 1970’s claims that we cannot see objectively,

since we have no clue which images have been stored inside our minds.

With that thought in mind, we don’t listen objectively, we don’t taste objectively and maybe we don’t even live objectively.

Maybe only gods succeed it.

Maybe that’s why we seek them when we talk about perfection.

Now, if I say the word “Osiris” you may “hear” music from Pharaoh’s yard, you could even “taste” honey and milk from Cleopatra’s bathtub or you may “see” the warm colors of the Egyptian civilization, the gold, the tall figures, the pyramids, the sand. You may even think about Asterix & Obelix. And all these things may come to mind, just from hearing the name “Osiris” the god of fertility, of agriculture, the afterlife, the dead and the resurrection in ancient Egyptian religion.

The question we ask today is, how can the idea of God make us feel safe nowadays, since we are so close to proving that we created these perfections ourselves? In a book I love deeply, there is a phrase that brings us to the second design called “feel”. The phrase is

“Hell is two people sitting back to back and never seeing each other’s faces. Everyone else is god.”

Two gods sitting back to back could be the worst case scenario. It's also, the biggest question to ask. If two gods are sitting back to back, separated from the world, into their cold color palette, with lost eyes and never get involved in current events, then what’s left for humanity? What can calm us down and hold us? There is no empty space in this design, there is emptiness though.

This being said, I believe the conclusion and key factor, is to involve.

In Greece, we say “σὺν Ἀθηνᾷ καὶ χεῖρα κίνει” [sin athina kai xira kini] which loosely translates to "Goddess Athena will help you but you yourself must also move". That being said, there are so many ways this could be said and phrased.

Take responsibility.

Live consciously.

Don’t be just another visitor.

Be a creator.

Be someone who feels the responsibility and wants the best for humanity.

After all, we are the foundations of this construction. We are gods and we are the believers. We are the stories and the storytellers. We and this world are one, which means that we are the ones that can either make this world look healthy or make it sicker and sicker day by day.
